Under the direction of the Supply Chain Manager, the Buyer is responsible for managing a more advanced and autonomous buying process. The individual in this role oversees purchasing activities, negotiates complex agreements, and develops relationships with vendors to ensure optimal pricing and service levels. The Buyer is expected to bring a deeper understanding of the procurement process, industry trends, and cost-saving strategies.
- MRP Analysis; Run MRP daily as needed to fulfill the material requirements of the HTC build schedule. Analyze resultant MRP “purchase reports” and place orders for MRP generated requirements as needed from the assigned vendors.
- Purchasing coordinator for assigned KANBAN card replenishment of specific inventory and non-inventory items. Place PO’s, expedite, resolve conflicts, etc. Maintain KANBAN cards, updating them and/or replacing them as needed.
- Place POs for other supplies, etc. as needed to support all aspects of the Hydro-Thermal business.
- Negotiates prices, terms and delivery methods for purchased goods.
- Coordinate quarterly supplier score cards for vendor performance.
- Actively seek and develop alternative vendors based on varying price and lead time through an RFQ process to bolster the stability of the HT supply chain.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to control and reduce costs across the HTC supply chain.
- Coordinate, communicate, and visit suppliers as needed to maintain the supplier/customer business relationship.
- Lead the Outside Process (OSP) Create Purchase Orders (POs) for the OSP requirements; create Packing Slips for the OSP shipments; communicate the OSP & PO requirements to the OSP vendors; coordinating any other aspects of the process as needed.
- Coordinate supplier stocking agreements.
- Expedite purchased items as needed, resolving delivery issues when they arise. Correct pricing on orders as required. Update the vendor pricing databases when changes occur.
- Discrepancy resolution: Interact with HTC accounting department as needed to resolve any order/invoice issues. Work with HTC receiving personnel to resolve any receipt issues, and process returns to suppliers as needed.
- Issue credits and return for replacements to the vendor.
- Be an active member of meetings pertaining to the purchasing department.
- Mentor and train new team members.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manager.

The right candidate will possess the ability to work in a fast-paced and growing custom design-build manufacturing environment. This person should have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders in a professional and expeditious manner. This person would embody a team first attitude with a desire to outperform customer expectations. Someone who is not afraid of change but embraces and helps drive it.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
- 3+ years’ experience in purchasing and/or production control capacity in a custom design-build manufacturing environment is desired. And/or a combination of education and/or experience.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in business
- Previous experience in metalworking, machining, and/or fabricating environment is desired.
- A Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Systems, Lean Manufacturing, and/or Process Improvement
- Good verbal and written communication
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of products
- Experience with an ERP system is a plus
- General understanding of how to read and interpret manufacturing drawings.
Work Environment:
Office / Machine Shop environment. Little travel required. When required, travel tends to be local.
