Overview:

Under the direction of the President, the Director of Engineering plans, analyzes and evaluates the mechanical, electrical and manufacturing engineering programs, plans and procedures.  The incumbent also coordinates the creation, development, design, and improvement of products to conform with defined objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete tactical initiatives that execute the engineering strategic plan.
  • Staff the engineering department with the right personnel in the right seats
  • Provide clear leadership and vision
  • Inspire, motivate and mentor engineering staff to achieve excellence and new skills
  • Drive Key Performance Indicators across all areas of engineering to ensure that all projects are delivered under cost and on time to the highest quality standards.
  • Direct and monitor the engineering department staff activities
  • Verify design inputs for sold products and new product developments
  • Validate design outputs meet design inputs
  • Verify compliance to regulatory standards
  • Estimate and measure engineering labor hours for all engineering activities
  • Assign product work to respective Senior Product and Manufacturing Engineers
  • Schedule engineering labor to meet committed completion dates
  • Maintain micro and macro schedules (gantt charts)
  • Resolve technical conflicts between engineering product groups and other departments
  • Provide technical support and conduct concurrent engineering reviews with relevant stakeholders, including application engineering, business development, marketing, sales, customers and customer service
  • Report the department’s status and progress to management
  • Initiate and apply new and unique design and manufacturing engineering methods and procedures
  • Reviews design and equipment recommendations
  • Provide technical engineering advice to management
  • Maximizing efficiency and drive engineering excellence.
  • Initiate continuous improvement across all engineering related areas of the business.

 Qualifications:

  • Fifteen years of experience (5 in engineering management) or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to manage senior technical personnel and integrate respective teams into a productive department.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with PC and Windows Operating system, Microsoft Office Suite.  

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Minimum qualifications – BS Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred qualifications – MS Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree, Professional Engineer certification or equivalent experience.
  • MBA or courses in business management or equivalent experience.
