Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Shipping & Receiving Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all daily operations within the Shipping, Receiving, and Material Handling departments at HTC. This role ensures the efficient, accurate, and timely movement of materials and finished goods, both domestic and international. The Supervisor provides direct leadership to team members, ensuring adherence to company policies, safety standards, and best practices. This position also plays a key role in training, process improvement, and coordination across departments to support operational excellence.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise, train, and develop shipping, receiving, and material handling team members to ensure high performance and adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Plan, prioritize, and assign daily workloads to meet production and customer shipment schedules.
- Oversee the picking, packaging, and shipping of outbound orders, including small package and LTL shipments.
- Manage carrier relationships, coordinate pickups, and ensure accurate preparation of all domestic and international shipping documentation.
- Oversee crate and packaging builds, coordinating outsourced resources for specialty shipments when required.
- Ensure timely and accurate data entry in ERP, UPS, and FedEx systems for all shipments.
- Collaborate with internal departments (Receiving, Production, and Customer Service) to meet shipping deadlines and inventory requirements.
- Monitor and maintain department KPIs (on-time shipment rate, shipping accuracy, and inventory turnaround).
- Identify and implement process improvements to drive efficiency, accuracy, and cost savings.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee all Receiving and Material Handling activities, ensuring timely inspection, documentation, and placement of materials (within 24 hours of receipt).
- Coordinate all Outside Processing (OSP) and Returned Goods Authorization (RGA) activities in accordance with company procedures.
- Ensure accuracy in all shipping documents (BOLs, pick lists, customs forms, etc.) and compliance with labeling and hazardous material regulations.
- Supervise inventory cycle counting processes and maintain accurate stock levels of materials and shipping supplies.
- Ensure team members are properly certified to operate forklifts, cranes, and other material handling equipment.
- Manage housekeeping, organization, and safety compliance within all shipping, receiving, and warehouse areas (5S program).
- Support and enforce safety initiatives and participate in safety and continuous improvement (Kaizen) activities.
- Oversee maintenance of waste management areas, including chip bins and recycling containers.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in shipping and receiving within a manufacturing or distribution environment.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory or lead experience in logistics, warehouse, or operations.
- Strong knowledge of ERP systems, shipping software (UPS, FedEx), and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Certified forklift operator (or ability to become certified).
- Working knowledge of basic inspection tools (micrometer, caliper, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing a diverse team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of international shipping processes, documentation, and customs regulations.
- Experience coordinating carrier quotes, rates, and freight routes.
- Understanding of inventory control and continuous improvement principles (Lean, 5S, Kaizen).
Travel Requirements
- Occasional local travel for materials, supplies, or deliveries to and from suppliers.
- Minimal exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, chemical vapors, metal work and loud noise
- Some physical activity including lifting up to 25 lbs, bending, and standing
